SouthEast Texas SnorkEM Grizzly Snorkel

If you drive a Grizzly 660 and you would like to go deep in the water without killing your bike SouthEast Texas SnorkEM has the snorkel kit for you. Constructed from high temp exhaust flex hose and laser cut plates the SnorkEM kit is top-notch quality. MUDandDIRT had the chance to install one of the 660 kits with the optional longer riser snorkels on one of our bikes and we must say that we were impressed. Installation was a snap thanks to the included detailed instructions and well thought out design of the snorkel kit. The kit took about 2 ½ hours to install including breaks, taking pictures, and goofing off. This is truly one of the only snorkel kits that you cannot make with items bought at your local home improvement store. Also with the included modified air box lid going back to stock is quick and simple.

NOTICE.. MUDandDIRT.com has no relationship with SE TX SnorkEM other then testing their products. SouthEast closed their doors after Katrina. We have not heard any news if they will open back up. We are going to leave this tech article up for our readers to see how they can design their snorkel systems.

the kit

First we removed the side
plastic and gas tank per the
instructions. With everything
off the bike it was a great time
to put dielectric grease in all
our electrical plug. This protects
them from water damage
dirtydog08202005 066.jpg
We cut the rear part of the
gas tank shield to make
room for the snorkel
dirtydog08202005 067.jpg
Moving up front we removed
the front rack and hood to
cut out the stock belt intake
hose location. This provided
enough room for the new
snorkels
dirtydog08202005 068.jpg
Using the supplied template
we cut a hole just big enough
to route the new snorkels
through the stock hood.
dirtydog08202005 069.jpg
After removing the stock air
box lid we removed the seal
to reinstall in the new air
box lid provided with the kit
dirtydog08202005 070.jpg
The lid on the left is stock
and the lid on the right is the
lid included
dirtydog08202005 071.jpg
Snapping the lid down and
routing the new provided
crank case vent line we was
almost ready to run the snorkels
dirtydog08202005 072.jpg
To make more room for the
snorkels we turned the
shifter bracket around to give
us about 1 more inch to
work with
dirtydog08202005 073.jpg
We did this by just removing
the bolt and spinning it around
dirtydog08202005 074.jpg
After turning the bracket
you will need to readjust
your shift linkage
dirtydog08202005 075.jpg
Per the instructions the rear
belt snorkel was attached and
ran to the front of the bike
dirtydog08202005 076.jpg
Next we ran both air intake
snorkels to the front routing
them next to the carb by way
of the new opening we cut
out
dirtydog08202005 078.jpg
Again we ran the front belt
snorkel to the opening we cut
in the plastic
dirtydog08202005 079.jpg
Once the snorkels were ran
we could reinstall the gas
tank over the snorkels
dirtydog08202005 080.jpg
It is a very tight fit but it will
fit.
dirtydog08202005 081.jpg
I promise it will fit
dirtydog08202005 082.jpg
Pushing the tank down and
starting one bolt and then
the other we slowly was
able to get the tank back
in place
dirtydog08202005 083.jpg
Once it was time to reinstall
the plastic we had to trim the
plastic were we modified
the shift linkage
dirtydog08202005 084.jpg
Keep in mind that this mod is
not required and the kit will
still work without it. We just
wanted more room for our
snorkels
dirtydog08202005 085.jpg
See I told you it would work..
One tip would be make sure
your filter is clean and you
do not have to remove the lid
before the first ride. Before the
heat has formed the snorkels
it can be hard to reinstall the lid
dirtydog08202005 086.jpg
With all the snorkels routed
out of the front plastic we can
start finishing this project
dirtydog08202005 087.jpg
Pulling the snorkels as far out
as you can will make it easier
to install the front snorkel
plate
dirtydog08202005 088.jpg
If the plate will not go down to
bolt it down you can always
stand on it. Sometimes being
fat does come in handy
dirtydog08202005 089.jpg
The plate is bolted to the front
rack using factory holes in the
rack
dirtydog08202005 090.jpg
Here you can see how the
snorkels connects to the
bottom side of the plate
e.jpg
We took our bike deep in the
water with no problems out
of the snorkels
q.jpg
One tip would be to make sure
your air box drain plug is
installed

Ours disappeared during the
install and we found out
during our testing

The bike was not hurt

And the owner of the bike did
not hurt me
